NASA has high hopes that they will be able to send people to the moon a year earlier then they planned. They had scheduled to send people in 2015.
At this time Congress is worried by the fact that we have to rely on Russia in order to make any trips to the International Space Station during that time. NASA is preparing for any demands that the new President might have and is working on a new study that pushes up the test launch of the brand new Ares rocketship.
This new rocket will bring a whole crew with it to the moon. The first of those flights will be to the space station. The manager of NASA’s back to the moon program – Jeff Hanley – stated that it would be hard to make the trip earlier then a year ahead of schedule.
“We’re shooting for a more aggressive date of September 2014,” and looking at even faster options, he said. “The real stretch is what can we do to accelerate as much as 18 months. That will be particularly hard.”
For now NASA is working at making sure that the Ares rocket will fly the way they want and will keep everyone on board safe. They have made certain adjustments and are continuing to improve upon it. NASA will be testing the ship next July.
